Upper Eden Neighbourhood Plan Referendum

We held a Referendum, relating to the adoption of the Upper Eden Neighbourhood Plan, in line with legislation, in order to determine whether the plan should become part of the statutory development framework.

View the result of the Referendum held on 7 March 2013.

The question asked in the Referendum was, 'Do you want Eden District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for the Upper Eden Area to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area.'

We identified the Referendum area on the map included with this information statement.

The Referendum area was identical to the area designated as the Upper Eden Neighbourhood area.

Individuals were entitled to vote in the Referendum if on 2 January 2013:

  • He or she was entitled to vote in an election of any Councillor of Eden District Council whose area is in the Referendum area; and
  • His or her qualifying address for the election was in the Referendum area. A person’s qualifying address is, in relation to a person registered in the register of electors, the address in respect of which he or she was entitled to be so registered.

The Referendum expenses limit that applied in relation to the Referendum was £2,613.64. The number of persons entitled to vote in the Referendum, by reference to the limit calculated, was 4,265.

We conducted the Referendum in accordance with procedures similar to those used at local government elections.
